I have been doing a few small pieces lately, in hopes they can get into the hands of some people who will enjoy them. I don’t love painting this size (under 8″) but it does let me price them low. I’ve just put them in my Etsy store… the bulk of what I have sold there have been smaller pieces. Ebay is not doing nothing lately, but when it was working for me it was a great way for me to sell a variety of sizes, not just little trinklety ones. So for now i’ll just go with the flow – it makes me feel almost ill to have a backlog of paintings. When i was in high school i realized that hanging on to paintings made me repeat myself, and since then I’ve known myself to be happiest when the work is out there. Bad economy? Or bad art? You decide.
The first painting has a lot of thick evocative brushwork. It was painted during a period where I was having a lot of strong energetic phenomena while meditating (i have some of my best meditation sessions at my painting studio – i think its the extended periods of solitude). Its a strange little painting for me but I am quite fond of it. It has something about it that reminds me of William Blake.
The second painting is a small experiement I did – i call it an experiment because I used only a small round brush for the whole piece which is unusual for me – i usually use a lot of flat brushes to really build up some paint, and I certainly use a variety. I think the restriction on brush size resulted in a strong use of light - since I could not use the brushwork to give emphasis.
